Asthma Action Plan

Everyone with asthma needs their own Asthma Action Plan. An allergist will work with you to create a plan that is specific to you in order to prevent and control asthma attacks. This plan will depend on the severity of your asthma. There are three zones: Green for when you’re doing well, Yellow for when your asthma is getting worse, and Red for a medical alert.

  • Green (Doing Well): There is no sign of cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, or chest tightness.
  • Yellow (Asthma is Getting Worse): A patient has shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing or noisy breathing, coughing, inability to do normal activities, or waking at night with asthma.
  • Red (Medical Alert): A patient is struggling to breathe, has progressive chest tightness, wheezing, or uncontrollable coughing.
